Directions: Translate the following text into Chinese.

Love can tolerate imperfection. In a love relationship there are times of boredom, times when I may feel like giving up, times of real strain, and times I experience an impasse. Authentic love does not imply enduring happiness. I can stay during rough times, however, because I can re member what we had together in the past, and I can picture what we will have together in our future if we care enough to face our problems and work them through. We agree with reverend Maier when he writes that love is a spirit that changes life. Love is creative and that transforms. However, Maier does not view love as being reserved for a perfect world. "Love is meant for our imperfect world where things go wrong. Love is meant to be a spirit that works in painful situations. Love is meant to bring meaning into life where nonsense appears to reign." In other words, love comes into an imperfect world to make it livable.

SECTION B ENGLISH TO CHINESE

Directions: Translate the following text into Chinese.

Who can say in remoteness of time, in what difference of earthly shape love first come to us as a stranger in the jungle? We, in our human family, know him through dependence in childhood, through possession in youth, through sorrow and loss in their season. In childhood we are happy to receive; it is the first opening of love. In youth we take and give, dedicate and possess --rapture and anguish are mingled, until parenthood brings a dedication that, to be happy, must ask for no return. All these are new horizons of content, which the lust of holding, the enemy of love, slowly contaminates. Loss, sorrow and separation come, sickness and death; possession, that tormented us, is nothing in our hands; it vanishes. Love's elusive entrenchment, his ubiquitous pretence, again become apparent; and in age we may reach a haven that asking for nothing knows how to enjoy.

SECTION B ENGLISH TO CHINESE

Directions: Translate the following text into Chinese.

Human beings are curious creatures, and in nothing more curious than in the forms of diversion which they devise for themselves. Some of these are quite comprehensible; the. y give physical or mental pleasure. Bathing in the sea, for instance; or watching a play. But, besides these simple pleasures, humanity has devised some so called amusements which seem to depend for their reputations as entertainments less on pleasing sensations inflicted on the participants than on some convention which has ordained that these pursuits shall be held agreeable. It speaks well, perhaps, for the kindliness and amiability of the human race that most such pursuits are of a gregarious nature. Assembling together; dearly we love to do this. "Neglect not the assembling of yourselves together," says (I think) St. Paul somewhere; and it was a superfluous piece of admonition. Neglect of this will never be numbered among the many omissions of mankind. Seeing one another; meeting the others of our race; exchanging remarks; or merely observing in what particular garments they have elected to clothe themselves today; this is so nearly universal a custom that it has become dignified into an entertainment, and we issue to one another invitations to attend such gatherings.

F: That' s all very well...all very well to take that romantic attitude. You know... you think you can get out of everything...wriggle out of any argument...by quoting Shakespeare. What about my preferences? You are being selfish you know.

M: Selfish? Me?

F: Yes. Think of the children. Its seems to me that you are so carried away with the idea that your personal likes and dislikes are making you anything but practical.
