M: How come? Didn't she move in just a week ago?

W: Yes, she did. But she's driving me crazy. (19)She's always making loud noises at midnight and when I remind her, she always makes rude remarks. What's more, she would mess up the room, (20) and I have to do the cleaning twice a day.

M: That's too bad. Haven't you talk about it with her?

W: Of course, I have. But it didn't work; she just pretended not to hear me. I'm thinking about complain to our instructor. I hope she will be forced to move out.

M: Well, good luck, then. By the way, where did your former roommate go?

W: You mean Jenny? (21) She went to America for further education. I learned from her email that she seemed to meet her Mr. Right on her vacation in California. I guess she may get married in a few months.

M: Oh, that's so disappointing. Then I will have no chance to tell her how I feel.

W: Oh my God. Are you saying that you have feeling for Jenny?

M: I'm just kidding. But I do miss her. You know, she has done me a big favor last month. I was doing some shopping that day, but when I was at the cashier's, I found I had left my wallet home. Luckily, Jenny was there. And it was she that helped me out.

M: I agree.

听力原文: Today I'd like to say something about taxis. I think it's beneficial to all new-comers. Most people are likely to travel by taxi when they arrive in America. Actually, taxis here come under the heading of luxury travel. In Chicago, for example, the meter reads almost $1.00 before you even move! Furthermore, they're sometimes not only hard to find at the busy hours of a day but also if the weather turns had.

Generally speaking, taxis are metered throughout the country, but there are some cities, for example, Washington D. C. , where they operate on a distant zone system.

If you find yourself sharing a cab with several strangers, you will often be expected to pay full price, unfair though that may seem. Nothing is uniform. in the US. Furthermore, rules vary from one city to in other.

If you want to make a complaint about taxi service, note the driver's number and name. When you write to the company, be sure to keep a copy of your letter.

How do the Americans think of the taxi?

A.It's a useful means of travelling.

B.It benefits a lot to all Americans.

C.It's hard to find all the time.

D.It is a luxury and Americans seldom take it.

第5题

One silly question I simply cannot tolerate is "How do you feel?" Usually the question is asked of a man in action—a man walking along the street, or busily working at his desk. So what do you expect him to say? Hell probably say, "Fine, Im all right. " But you have put a bug in his ear—maybe now he is not sure. If you are his good friend, you may have seen something on his face, or in his walk, that he overlooked that morning. It makes him worrying a little. He looks in a mirror to see if everything is all right, while you go merrily on your way asking someone else, "How do you feel?" Every question has its time and place. Its perfectly acceptable, for instance, to ask "How do you feel?" if you are visiting a close friend in the hospital. But if the fellow is walking on both legs, hurrying to take a train or sitting at his desk working, its no time to ask him that silly question. When George Bernard Shaw, the famous British writer of plays was in his eighties, someone asked him, "How do you feel?" Shaw put him in his place. "When you reach my age," he said, "either you feel all right or you are dead. " Question: "You have put a bug in his ear" means that you have______.

A.made him laugh

B.shown concern for him

C.made fun of him

D.given him some kind of warning

You must have been troubled by when to say "I love you" because it is one of the greatestpuzzles in our life.

All relationships go through power struggles but, hesays, if a love imbalance continues for years, the rot will set in.In love, at least, the silent, with-holding type is not always the most powerful."The strongest one in a relationship is often the per-son who feels confident enough to talk about their feelings." says educational psychologist IngridCollins."In fact, the person who says &39; I love you&39; first may also be the one who says &39; I&39; mbored with you&39; first." Hall believes that much depends on how "I love you" is said and the mo-tivation of the person saying it."Is it said when they&39;re drunk? By saying &39;I love you&39;, they re-ally saying &39; Do you love me?&39; If so, wouldn&39; t it just be more honest to say that?" Collins agreesthat intention is everything."It&39; s not what is said, but how it&39; s said. What it comes down to isthe sincerity of the speaker."
