Write an argumentative essay on this topic. Follow the four-paragraph or five-paragraph pattern. Writing Assignment Sample Four-paragraph Pattern The unprecedented development of technology in this age has thrust the concept of AI into the public spotlight. Some worry that the development of artificial intelligence may finally outgrow that of humans and pose threat to the human society, while others tend to adopt a comparatively more optimistic attitude. I personally stand with the latter side. Some people fear advanced artificial intelligence because they are afraid that it could develop so dramatically to the extent that one day it should break loose the checks from its creators, dominating or even wiping out human beings. In addition, humans could lose their fundamental abilities with an increasingly heavier reliance on AI. To say the least, some are already starting to lose their jobs or have their personal information disclosed. In spite of the opposition from the modern Luddites, I have faith in the bright prospect of AI for its widespread impact on our personal life, diverse industries and the society as a whole. First and foremost, it is making our life more convenient. The digital recommendations on our smart phones are always smartly customized to our personal tastes, largely improving our customer experience; and the facial recognition renders work checking-in and out so easy, saving much time and energy. Furthermore, it is revolutionizing a great array of industries. Robots and automatic machines are already undertaking much heavier and complicated workload in manufacturing and healthcare, a tremendous boost to work efficiency and precision. Last but not least, there is no need to mention the promising social progress. The formidable Alpha Go has already proved the strengths of AI in information-sorting, decision-making, calculating, predicting, among other territories. These will be all the core abilities leading to the better solutions to many tough social issues. To put it in a nutshell, it would make no sense to deny the existing remarkable achievements for fear of something inconclusive. The contributions of AI far outweigh the risks it could generate. The key to stand still in the AI-driven wave is a constantly upskilled workforce, as well as the responsible and human-centered codes of practice. Five-paragraph Pattern The unprecedented development of technology in this age has thrust the concept of AI into the public spotlight. Some worry that the development of artificial intelligence may finally outgrow that of humans and pose threat to the human society, while others tend to adopt a comparatively more optimistic attitude. I personally stand with the former side. In the first place, the disputes over artificial intelligence center on the question that whether the machines could develop self-consciousness and the ability to think by themselves. Equipped with an unrivaled vast pool of knowledge, diversified and perfectly honed working skills, a sharp mind is thus highly likely to enable these machines, once servants to human beings, to rise up and challenge the human authority. The worst scenario would be the humanity dominated or even annihilated by its own inventions. Even if it be so far-fetched, real social problems have already popped up. A number of studies have predicted that 50% of every job on the planet could potentially be replaced with A.I. technologies and robotics. And there is no more closet for our secrets anymore. Personal information is now open wide from one's height, weight to his or her telephone number or home address. On the other side, the advocates argue that AI is transforming the world in ways never seen before. It brings conveniences to people’s personal life. For instance, in every step of our online shopping, from the item recommendations, the automatic order processing, to the highly automated distribution centers for storage, sorting and delivery, people are enjoying the fruits of AI all the time. There is no need to mention the revolutionary changes it causes in different industries and the society as a whole. With the aid of AI, people are producing faster, performing better and progressing in every aspect of life. However, none of these seem a big deal compared with the to-be-or-not-to-be question. This is definitely not crying wolf. Perhaps the best we can do is to pray for the best and prepare for the worst.
