听力原文: Swimming is a very popular pastime, especially when the temperature is high. To stay cool in water is delightful on a very hot summer day. Most people can't help rushing off to the beach and leaping into the sea. But, be careful. In some circumstances swimming can be quite dangerous.
If you are a beginner or a rather weak swimmer, you must either swim in a swimming pool or in an area for swimmers, if you go swimming, you must also keep your eyes open for the red flag at the beach. If it is flying you must not swim; it means the waves are too rough for most swimmers. Of course, you may swim in a swimming pool on those days.
If you are a very strong swimmer, you may be wherever you like, but even then you must still be careful. Careless swimmers make very good meals for the fish. Also if you want to swim a long distance at sea, it is always a good idea to ask another strong swimmer to accompany you and you must first of all inquire about local currents and tides. If you don't, you may end up in the Pacific Ocean.
Swimming is a very enjoyable activity. Use your common sense, observe the rules, and you will get a lot of fun from it for a very long time.

听力原文: There are many commonly held beliefs about eye glasses and eyesight that are not proven facts. For instance, some people believe that wearing glasses too soon weakens the eyes. But there is no evidence to show that the structure of eyes is changed by wearing glasses at a young age. Wearing the wrong glasses, however, can prove harmful. Study shows that for adults there is no danger, but children can develop loss of vision if they have glasses inappropriate for their eyes. We have all heard some of the common myths about how eyesight gets bad. Most people believe that reading in dim light causes poor eyesight, but that is untrue. Too little light makes the eyes work harder, so they do get tired and strained. Eyestrain also results from reading a lot, reading in bed, and watching too much television. However, although eyestrain may cause some pain or headaches, it does not permanently damage eyesight. Another myth about eyes is that they can be replaced, or transferred from one person to another. There are close to one million nerve fibers that connect the eyeball to the brain, as if yet it is impossible to attach them all in a new person. Only certain parts of the eye can be replaced. But if we keep clearing up the myths and learning more about the eyes, some day a full transplant may be possible.
Questions:
26. What does the speaker want to tell us about eyesight?
27. What do studies about wearing the wrong glasses show?
28. What do we learn about eye transplanting from the talk?
(27)
A.Its protection is often neglected by children.
B.It cannot be fully restored once damaged.
C.There are many false notions about it.
D.There are various ways to protect it.

When he was seventy-five, he gave some money to the village school to buy land and equipment for a children's playground.
As a result of his kindness, many people came to visit him. Among them was a newspaper man. During their talk, Johnson remarked that he was seventy-five and expected to live to be a hundred. The newspaperman asked him how he managed to be healthy at seventy-five. Johnson had a sense of humor. He liked whisky and drank some each day. "I have an injection in my neck each eyeing," he told the newspaperman, thinking of his evening glass of whiskey.
The newspaperman did not understand what Johnson meant. In his newspaper he reported that Johnson was seventy-five and had a daily injection in his neck. Within a week Johnson received thousands of letters from all over Britain, asking him for the secret of his daily injection.

听力原文: For years scientists have been worried about the effects of air pollution on the earth's natural conditions. Some believe the air inside many houses may be more dangerous than the air outside. It may be one hundred times worse. Indoor air pollution can cause a person to feel tired, to suffer eye-pain, headache and other problems. Some pollutants can cause breathing disorders, diseases of blood and even cancer. Most scientists agree that every modem house has some kind of indoor pollution. People began to notice the problem in the early 1970s. When builders began making houses and offices, they did not waste energy. To do this they built buildings that limited the flow of air between inside and outside. They also began using man-made building materials. These materials are now known to let out harmful gases. As the problem became more serious, scientists began searching for a way to deal with it. They discovered a natural pollution control system for buildings-green plants. Scientists do not really know how plants control air pollution. They believe that a plant's leaves absorb or take in the pollutants. In exchange the plant lets out oxygen through its leaves and through its tiny organizations on its roots. Scientists suggest that all buildings should have one large plant or several small plants inside for every nine square meters of space. Studies of different plants show that each absorbs different chemicals. So the most effective way to clean the air is to use different kinds of plants.

听力原文: Most Americans believe someone isn't grown up until age 26, probably with a complete education, a full-time job, a family to support and financial independence, a survey said. (26)But they also believe that becoming an official grown-up is a process that, takes five years from about the age of 20, concluded the report from the University of Chicago's National Opinion Research Center. The findings were based on a representative sample of 1 398 people over age 18 surveyed in person in 2002. (27)The poll found the following ages at which people expect the transitions to grow up status to be completed: Age 20.9 self supporting; 21.1 no longer living with parents; 21.2 full-time job; 22.3 education complete; 24.5 being able to support a family financially; 25.7 married; and 26.2 having a child. "There is a large degree of consensus across social groups on the relative importance of the seven transitions, "said Tom Smith, director of the survey. The only notable pattern of differences is on views about supporting a family, having a child and getting married. "Older adults and the widowed and the never-married do, " he added. "This probably reflects in large part a shift in values across generations away from traditional family values." (28)The most valued step toward reaching adulthood, the survey found, was completing an education, followed by fall-time employment, supporting a family, financial independence, living independently of parents, marriage and parenthood.
(27)
