M: Ah, nothing. I'm just looking up some information on the Internet.
W: Like what? Let me see.
M: No, no, it's okay. I mean, you know.
W: Baldness? What are you looking that up for? Well, you know I , I mean, you're not that bad off.
M: Ah, there you go. Bringing it up again!
W: No. I mean it. You look great] Honestly, it's not that bad.
M: Hey, I get enough of it from friends, and the people at work, and now from you!
W: Well, maybe you could wear a wig? I think you'd look great.
M: Oh no. And have it slip off my head on to my date's dinner plate as I lean over to kiss her?
W: Well, have you ever thought about seeking medical advice? There are new advances in medicines that not only prevent hair loss, but help stimulate new growth.
M: Ah, I still don't give much confidence to medical treatment to prevent permanent hair loss.
W: Well, what about accepting the fact that you're just losing your hair?
M: I just can't give up hope. I know appearances shouldn't matter, but I don't know. I just feel that women just avoid me.
W: Come on. You can't be serious.
M: No, really. I've seen it many times. It just, I don't know.

My son Joey was born with club feet, (29) The doctors assured us that with treatment he would be able to walk normally, but would never run very well. The first three years of his life were spent in surgery, casts and braces. By the age of six, Joey could go to school with other neighbor children. (30) By the time he was eight, you wouldn't know he had a problem when you saw him walk.
One year later, Joey would jump right in and nun as most children do during play. We never told him that he probably wouldn't be able to run as well as the other children. So he didn't know.
In seventh grade he decided to go out for the cross-country team. Every day he trained with the team. Although the entire team runs, only the top seven runners have the potential to score points for the school. We didn't tell him he probably would never make the team, so he didn't know.
He continued to run four to five miles a day. Two weeks later, the names of the team runners were called. Joey was number six on the list. (31)He was in seventh grade, while the other six team members were all eighth-graders. We never told him he shouldn't expect to make the team. We never told him he couldn't do it... so he didn't know. He just did it.

W: Is that all?
M: Yes, I'm on a diet, my doctor told me that I should lose some weight because I'm too heavy--and that's not healthy.
W: How do you feel?
M: I feel fine, in fact, I've never felt better. Furthermore, some of my old clothes would fit me if I lose about 40 pounds.
W: How long will that take you?
M: Well, I've just started my diet, so it may take me six months to get down to my proper weight.
W: Do you plan to eat nothing but salads for six months?
M: No, I'll be able to eat fruit and certain meats and dairy products, but most important, I should never eat anything between meals and I should not eat anything containing sugar.
W: Then you probably won't want to try the delicious pizza they serve here, I understand the head cook is good at making pizza.

W: What paper?
M: You forgot it? The paper we are going to hand in this Friday. Professor Smith assigned it.
W: Oh, I see. I finished it last week. How is yours?
M: I have just started to work on it.
W: Are you crazy? You know what? Only four days left.
M: Yes, I know. I can't get my inspiration until the last minute. I need the pressure.
W: Oh. I'm just the opposite. If I don't have enough time to prepare, I can do nothing.
M: What's your paper on?
W: William Shakespeare.
M: Wasn't he a dramatist? I thought we were supposed to focus on a poet and his works.
W: He wrote some poems, don't you know?
M: Really? I never knew that. I guess I'll learn more from your paper. I want to write something about Keats, but I don't know where I can find any useful information.
W: Uh-huh. Don't worry about it. I have bought some poetry anthologies of Keats. Maybe they will be useful to you.
M: Thank you so much. You are really giving me a timely hand. When can I get these books?
W: Will tonight be all right? I have to buy something now, but I'll be around after dinner.
M: That sounds good. I'll see you then.
