听力原文:W: Hi,Fred.What are you reading?

M: Oh,these are just some books I picked up at a local poetry festival that was held a couple of weeks ago. Even though a lot of what the featured poets wrote wasn't in English,it was still pleasant to see that there are so many people who appreciate poetry in New Zealand.

W: I didn't know you were such a poetry lover,Fred.Personally,I've always found that stuff a little boring and hard to understand. And all that flowery language gives me a headache!I'd rather read a nice long novel any day.

M: I'll admit that poetry's an acquired taste. But once you learn more about it,you'll find that poems aren't all flower and difficult to understand--they don't even have to rhyme!

W: Then who is your favorite poet?

M: One of my favorite poets is Billy Collins, who writes really funny, fine poems in simple everyday English.

W: I'll have to look him up.Say,have you ever written any poetry of your own? Some love sonnets, perhaps?

M: No love sonnets, but I did try to write some poems a long time ago. They were all really bad.Once I spent three hours trying to come up with a word that rhymes with"panda"!

W: Silly Fred! How could you not think of my name"Amanda"?

What do we learn about the popularity of poetry in New Zealand?

A.Poetry is popular among the general public.

B.People there have no interest in poetry.

C.Poetry is the most popular literature.

D.People have no passion for writing poems.

听力原文:W: We're talking this hour about how and why people might become addicted to the
Internet. (22)Dr.James at Maryland University has put together a support group for students who find themselves addicted to the Internet. He joins me now from his office in College Park.

M: Thank you very much for inviting me.

W: Is Internet addiction a relatively new thing?

M: Well, some may have been addicted for a while.

W: How does it present itself?

M: Well, some of them have issues like relationship problems, (23)or problems maintaining their grades because they are spending so much time on the Net.

W: But I think the computer is a very positive thing. How do I know when my impulse to go online will turn me into an Internet addict?

M: Uh...I'm not sure the exact amount of time is really the issue, (24)but I think if it begins to affect other areas of your life, such as your work or school performance. One of the problems with the Internet, is that people start losing some of the skills that make relationships successful. (24)If you are beginning to feel anxious or depressed or empty or lonely and you know you really look forward to those times when you can be online to be connected with other people in that way, then, a serious issue is starting to happen.

W: What if you start giving up other things, like going out for a walk...is that a symptom?

M: Well, (25)I think it's helpful to have some sort of balance in your life. If you can, spend some time on the Internet and then go out and take a walk.

W: So that's how we can avoid Internet addiction. Thank you very much, Dr.James.

(23)

A.Video and online games.

B.Hazards of a high-tech society.

C.Relationships on campus.

D.Internet additions.

听力原文:M: I was young once myself, you know. I know what it's like to be young.

W: But you don't know what it's like to grow up in our world, Mr. Perkins.

M: I grew up during the war, young lady.

W: Exactly. You had a brave new world to fight for, didn't you? But what have we got to look forward to? Pollution and population explosion, if we are not destroyed first by the H bomb.

M: But you'll survive like all the generations before us. Progress is just moving a little bit faster. That's all.

W: Really, Mr. Perkins? Progress, as you call it, can change things completely in a few years these days. You know that perfectly well. Can't you see how pointless your business world must seem to young people like me?

M: In any event, we have to go on living, Ann. And living means working. The young will realize that one day. They'll learn. They'll grow up.

W: You think we should grow up to be like you, don't you, Mr. Perkins? I know you do. I know you'll laugh at us when we talk about universal love and understanding between people. When people demonstrate about what is happening in other countries, you'll say, "What right have they to interfere? It's none of their business." But it is our business, Mr. Perkins. We are all responsible for one another these days, whatever our race, or color, or nationality.

M: I agree, Ann. But so many of your so-called international demonstrations only make misunderstanding worse. A lot of you are so sure you got the answer to everything. You won't accept any guidance at all from older people.

W: But it's very difficult for older people to give proper guidance when, as people often say, they had no experience of being young today. It's no use their saying I never behaved like that when I was young. They didn't have the same kind of problems. That's what the generation gap is all about.

M: Well, I don't think the generation gap in this country is as great as you make out. In fact, I suspect many young people go to their parents for advice just as often as they go to friends of their own age.

W: You know, Mr. Perkins, I am almost frightened of getting older. Will I be talking like this to my children one day?

(47)

A.Because he could avoid being killed by the H-bomb.

B.Because he had a new world to fight for.

C.Because he was able to enjoy a pollution-free life.

D.Because he succeeded in setting up his own business.

听力原文:W: Hi Peter! How are you doing these days?

M: Oh, I am trying to shift to another work.(19)And you know it seems very hard to find a job these days because it is a dead season for the employment.

W: That's too bad. Why did you leave your last job?

M: Well, (20)my boss is very critical, and the worst thing is that I can not see any chance of promotion in the company.

W: That makes sense. A job without opportunities and a critical boss isn't very attractive.

M: Exactly! So, anyway. I decided to quit and find a new job. (21)I sent out my resume to more than twenty companies. Unfortunately, I've only had two interviews so far.

W: Have you tried looking for a job online?

M: Yes, but so many of the jobs require moving to another city. I don't want to do that.

W: I can understand that. How about going to some of those networking groups?

M: I haven't tried those. What are they?

W: (22)They're groups of people who are also looking for work. They help each other discover new opportunities

M: That sounds great! I'll definitely try some of those.

W: I'm glad to hear that. So, what are you doing here?

M: Oh, I'm shopping for a new suit. I want to make the best impression possible at my job interviews!

W: There you go. That's the spirit. I'm sure things will look up for you soon.

(23)

A.Because he changes to another job.

B.Because he is not a good employee.

C.Because there are few job opportunities.

D.Because the job is not good enough.

听力原文:M: Hi, Cathy. I am here because I visited caves all over North America. Since you
are going to study cave formations, Dr. Bow asked me to come to share some of my experiences with you.

W: Hi, Bill. So wonderful! I can't wait to hear about it!

M: Recently, I visited the La Chagire Cave in New Mexico, my dream has always been to discover a new passage way. I had a chance there, because La Chagire is so large that discoveries are frequently made there.

W: Was it newly discovered?

M: The cave was not even discovered until 1986.

However, people in that area had figured that there must be a cave nearby, because of the strong wind that blew from behind the huge rock that covered the entrance. Enormous amount of air enter and exit the cave in order to maintain balance of the pressure with the inside air.

W: You must have had to fight heavy wind when you were in the cave.

M: Exactly, I had to fight 45 mile per hour winds. After all that effort, I had to be extremely careful maintaining my energy level. People who are tired tend to be careless, and may be more concerned about getting out of the cave than taking care of it.

W: Anything interesting or thrilling in the cave?

M: There are formations in La Chagire that look like ocean waves, Christmas trees and other stuff no one has ever seen before.

W: Caves are normally created by carbonic acid, right?

M: But this cave sculpted out by very powerful sulfuric acid that swells up from below.

(23)

A.He was asked to leads group of inexperienced carets there.

B.It was the first cave that he had ever visited.

听力原文:W: With us now, is Malcolm Bricklin, CEO of Visionary Vehicles.

M: Hello, everyone.

W: We have been hearing a couple of things about this news that Ford Motor Company is slashing up to 30,000 jobs, shutting down 14 plants nationwide. Is it a big deal if we are no longer manufacturing these cars, Malcolm?

M: I think it's a huge deal. I mean the companies are massive employers both directly and indirectly, If you look at Ford after their restructuring, they've actually got 87,000 employees which is twice as many as Microsoft have worldwide. Moreover, if you look at those jobs, they are very high-paying jobs. These are people who can afford to buy their own products.

W: Er, it seems to indicate a big hit for our economy if these jobs go bye-bye.

M: Yeah, it's a really sad day for America.

W: But it is not as if cars are stopped being made, right?

M: Correct. Still a large number of cars are being made by American manufacturers. More than haft of the American cars sold in America are American. So what has happened over time is that as the market share has fallen, foreign car companies have come in taken over plants and set up new plants, and they have taken over that capacity. So, it is not like there are fewer cars being produced in America than there were 30 years ago.

W: Let me ask you about the Chinese coming in. What would it mean to American jobs, if and when that happens?

M: The Chinese cars we have seen so far aren't that great and they don't have the branding necessary to make a huge impact in the world stage.

(23)

A.It is closing down some factories in the US.

B.It no longer offers high-paying jobs.

C.The number of its employees is doubled after the restructuring.

D.It is manufacturing as many cars as before.
