听力原文:M: Hi, Anne. Please come in and take a seat.

W: Well, I can't stay long. I've still got these papers to mark, but I thought I'd check up your progress with the website.

M: Well, things are a little on hold right now. We've got a problem with the BBS. The free lance web designer was not as good as we initially thought she would be. She informed us last night that she could only do simple designing and that putting up a BBS is beyond her means.

W: Well, didn't you make a list of what you want from her at the beginning?

M: Not really, she was recommend by Jim and from what he told me, this lady sounded to be pretty qualified to do the job. I'm not asking for a terrific web design but to build up a structure with all the basic elements of web design.

W: Did you ask her why she wasn't frank with you in the beginning if she couldn't do the BBS?

M: I did. She said I didn't bring that up and that it was a communication problem. You know, I also realize that she is an amateur and is not what Jim has described exactly. That really gets me.

W: I know you must be feeling you're being cheated or something. So what do you plan to do now that she got the job half done?

M: I don't want to be mean but I, basically, I told her straight out I will not pay her full fees because she wasn't honest with me in the beginning and because of this it has costs me time and energy on this project since I have to search around for other people to complete the job.

W: That sounds fair. But I'm sure she must be very upset after all the work she's done.

M: Hey, but who's the loser here? I don't think people should take up a job if it is not within their means to complete. That should teach her a lesson.

W: Well, it still means we need to find someone. I suggest we go back to our Dean and see if we can get extra funding somewhere in the Teacher Development Fund. Then we can get a professional to work at it.

M: We can try but I think we haven't got a hope in hell.

(23)

A.The designer couldn't handle the BBS.

B.The BBS failed.

C.The design was too bad.

D.The designer was out.

听力原文:M: (22)I would like to rent a car with a good stereo for a whole month.

W: I think you made the right choice. Come to us. We have a wide selection of vehicles you can choose from. All our cars have stereos in them, and also air conditioning.

M: Good. (22)I am here visiting my girlfriend. I want her to have a good time.

W: Oh, is that so? Well, let me show you something she might like. It's on our back lot.

M: This is a Porsche! But I probably can't afford it. It must be really expensive.

W: Well, (23) it's only $ 500 a month. You see, this car has a lot of miles on it. That's why it's so cheap. But it's in nice shape, isn't it?

M: Yes, it almost looks new.

W: Take a seat inside and see what you think.

M: OK. Wow, it's so cool.

W: So you will take the Porsche then, sir?

M: Yes, and I want to buy the insurance too. I think it's necessary.

W: You're smart to buy it. (23)At 45 dollars for three days, it is a good deal.

M: Can I return the car in San Francisco?

W: San Francisco? No, sir. (24)We only have this office here. You will have to return it here.

M: Really? I heard in America you can return rental cars in different cities.

W: No, sir. That's only with the very big companies. I'm sorry, but this car must be returned to this lot. Do you still want the car, sir?

M: Yes. It will be fun. Driving back down the coast. My girlfriend will like it.

W: It would be a beautiful drive.

M: Where are the keys?

W: (25)Just a moment, sir. We have to finish filling out the forms first.

听力原文:M: We're having a debate on advertising Thursday evening and I have to take part.

W: That's interesting. I should like to hear what people think about advertising.

M: [19] What's there to say? We must have advertising, mustn't we?

W: Why?

M: Well, [19] we wouldn't know what there was to buy if we didn't have advertisements.

W: Yes, that's true up to a point. Advertisements provide information that we need. If someone has produced a new article, naturally, the seller wants to tell us about it.

M: Yes. And the advertisements tell us which product is the best.

W: Do they? I don't think so. Every manufacturer says that his product is the best or at least tries to give the impression. [20] Only one can be the best, so the others are misleading, aren't they?

M: Well, in a way, I suppose. But we don't have to believe them, do we?

W: Are you saying that advertisements aren't effective? I don't think that intelligent businessmen will spend millions of dollars on advertising if nobody believes the advertisements, do you?

M: Perhaps not. But after all, it's their money that they are spending.

W: Is it? I think not. The cost of advertising is added to the price of the article. [21] You and I and all the other people who buy the article pay for the advertising.

M: Well, I suppose we get something for our money… some information.

W: Yes, [20] but don't forget it's often misleading information, and sometimes harmful.

M: Harmful?

W: What about advertisements designed to persuade young people to smoke cigarettes? Wouldn't you say they are harmful?

M: You've given me a lot to think about. I'm quite looking forward to the debate now.

(20)

A.Neutral.

B.Cautious.

C.Favorable.

D.Negative.
