There are three of us in Personnel and I'm the one you should come to for any help or information. The other two are Tom Miller and Jeff Said, and my name is Joan Rueckert, that's R-U-E-C-K-E-R-T. I'd just like to give you a few practical details now, before the MD comes to talk to you.
Firstly, the canteen on the ground floor is open all day for coffee, meals, etc. , but there are also coffee machines on the top floor, where we have all the company noticeboards, so staff often meet there to talk.
Next, some of you have asked about your tax position ... and for any tax questions, you need to contact the Accounts Office, general salary enquiries can be made to the Finance Office itself. Two events, now. Today, in the conference room, at 2:40, there'll be a presentation it's not on new developments as the notices say, it's actually on marketing. You're welcome to attend to see how we're moving in that area. There'll also be a buffet lunch for all staff working on the. new projects — that includes you, that's on Wednesday — sorry, I mean Thursday — you'll get full details later.
Finally, sometimes you'll need to use the machines in the print room. The first time you go there, register for a plastic card — you don't need it for ordinary photocopiers, but you do for the colour ones.
The other thing to sign up for, if you want to, is the sports club, just two minutes from hero. If you're interested, see Jeff Said, who'll give you an application form.
Right, that's all for the moment. Here's coffee, and the MD is just come through now.

Woman: Gina speaking. How can I help you?
Man: Oh, hello-I'd like to order some stationery, please.
Woman: And who am I speaking to?
Man: John Carter.
Woman: Right-can I just confirm your account number and the name of your company, John?
Man: Sure! The account number is 6 9 2 4 double 1
Woman: Six nine two four one one. Right, and you're from 'Rainbow Computers?'
Man: No. The company is Rainbow Communications
Woman: Oh, OK, I'll just fix that on the system ... communications. And what would you like to order, John?
Man: Envelopes. We need a box of A4 - that is, normal size envelopes
Woman: White, yellow or manilla?
Man: We'll have the plain white please - but the ones with the little windows.
Woman: OK ... One box - A4 - white - just the one box, was it?
Man: Um... on second thoughts make that two boxes. We go through heaps of envelopes. As a matter of interest. Are they made from recycled paper?
Woman: No. You can't get white recycled paper. The recycled ones are grey and they're more expensive actually.
Man: Right - we'll stick to white then.
Woman: Something else, John?
Man: Yes, we need some coloured photocopy paper. What colours do you have?
Woman: We've got purple, light blue, blue, light green-whatever you want, pretty much. There are 500 sheets to the pack.
Man: Let's see ... Um... we're going to need a lot of blue paper for our new price lists so can you give us 10 packs, please? Make sure it's the light blue though ...
Woman: 10 packs of the light blue. Anything else that we can help you with?
Man: Um... let me think ... what else do we need? Um... uh, I'm sure there was something else.
Woman: Pens, paper clips, fax paper, computer supplies, office furniture?
Man: Oh, yes! We need floppy disks - do you have those nice coloured ones?
Woman: Yes, but they're a bit more expensive than the black ones.
Man: That's alright. I'm not paying, anyway!
Woman: Right. Floppy disks. And what about diaries for next year? We've got them in stock already and it's a good idea to order early.
Man: Er... no - I think we're alright for diaries but something we do need is one of those big wall calendars - you know, one that shows the whole year at a glance. Do you stock those?
Woman: We certainly do.
Man: OK - can you include a wall calendar then, um, with the other stuff? Um, just make sure it's got the whole year on the one side.
Woman: Sure- and do you have a copy of our new catalogue?
Man: No, I don't, but could you send one. Woman: Yes! I'll pop one in with the order. You'll find it a lot easier to remember what you need if you have our catalogue in front of you next time.
Man: Yes, good idea. And er when can you deliver this?
Woman: Should be with you tomorrow morning.
Man: Can you make sure that it's not after 11.30a.m. because I have to go out at 12 there's only myself here on Fridays?
Woman: Fine - I'll make a note on the delivery docket that they should deliver before half past eleven. Thanks very much.
Man: Thanks.

听力原文:F: We are honoured that you have come to see us, Mr. Mitchell.
M: Thank you, Madam Ii. We're pleased to be here and appreciate your willingness to arrange this meeting on such a short notice.
F: You have indicated that you would like to explore the possibility of an agency relationship with Sinochem with the intent of developing a market for some of our products in your country and perhaps in Canada as well.
M: Yea, that is certainly our current thinking.
F: Perhaps before we begin any detailed discussions, I should give you some idea of the scope of activities of Sinochem.
M: The name "Sinochem' is well known to us, but we would like a little more information about your company. I should tell you that your branch in the U. S. has already informed us that Expert Division No. 4 is responsible for dyestuffs and pigments.
F: Sinochem was established in 1950 and since that time has grown to become one of the largest companies in China, specializing in imports and exports of chemical products. As a result, it has gained a great deal of experience (in foreign trade) and has many foreign clients. The primary products we handle are crude oil and oil products, plastic, rubber, fertilizer and pesticides, ss well as dyestuffs and pigments. You expressed a particular interest in our various dyestuffs as well as our pigments.
M: I glanced through these catalogues and noted the wide variety of products Sinochem offers.
F: You mentioned earlier that you would like to concentrate on dyes for cotton, silk, and linen materials.
M: Yes, that is what we intend to do.
F: In that case, you may wish to take a look at our sulfur and reactive dyes. Sulfur dyes have been around for a very long time and have been used for dying sturdy work clothing from early history. You will note that the variety of eolours in which this sulfur dye is available is somewhat limited, particularly in the bright hues. They are also cheaper than the reactive dyes.
M: I gather then that the reactive dyes are used primarily for fine cottons, silk, and linen.
F: That is correct.
M: I particularly lire the wide variety of bright eolours available in reactive dyes. Is there any difference in price from one colour to another?
F: Yes, there certainly is. The most expensive is the colour, identified as Brilliant Blue KNR, under Sinochem Code No.9607. A cheaper colour dye would ha, for example, Brilliant Red K-JBP; the most economical of course is Black.
M: I assume of course that not much expertise is needed in producing black.
?You will hear part of a business negotiation between Mr. Mitchell and Madam Li.
?For each question 23—30, mark one letter A, B or C for the correct answer.
?You will hear the recording twice.
21. What is the purpose of Mr. Mitchell's visit?
A.To explore the feasibility of setting up agency relationship.
B.To open an agency.
C.To develop his products.

M: Not really, Trisha, to be honest, (22) I think having a famous designer as a wife helps up my profile, and there are one or two other male models that are household names.
W: Was that how you got into the fashion world? I mean through your wife's contacts.
M: Yes and no. I was working as a catwalk model when I met Regina here. She was showing her latest collection and I had already done bits and bobs of catalogue stuff, but it wasn't until we got it together that I started appearing in fashion magazines.
W: So it has helped then?
M: (22) Definitely. There are so many guys out there, which makes it pretty competitive. Before Regina, I really had to work at it—I was constantly sending out portfolios to agencies and doing auditions.
W: And now?
M: (23) It's a lot different. I can pick and choose more or less.
W: So, if you don't like the look of a new collection then you pass.
M: No, it's not like that. (24) I think a professional can model anything—whatever the colour, pattern or cut. It's the type of work that decides it for me.
W: What do you mean?
M: I don't do show seasons anymore. I've been sticking to print work.
W: And I hear you are planning a career change?
M: Yes, yes it's true. (25) Regina and I are setting up our own agency so if you fancy a job as a scout, just let me know.
W: It's a competitive business.
M: Yes, we know. But we're going to be a bit different in terms of what type of model we're looking for.
W: OK, sounds great, thank you.
M: Definitely. There are so many guys out there, which makes it pretty competitive. Before Regina, I really had to work at it—I was constantly sending out portfolios to agencies and doing auditions.
22.What do we know about the man's success?
23.How is the man's present job different from the former one?

25.What are the man and his wife planning to do?
(23)
