Chinese wedding tea ceremony is a tradition that dates back to many centuries ago and is
still widely practiced at modern Chinese weddings on the wedding day, either at home or at the banquet. It is an official ritual to introduce the newlyweds to each other’s family, and is also a way to show respect and appreciation (感谢) to their parents. Tea is likely served also because it is the national drink of China.

When the tea itself is served, the newlyweds kneel in front of their parents, serving tea to both sides of parents,as well as elder close relatives. Parents give their words of blessing and gifts to the newlyweds. During tea presentation,a “good luck woman” would say lucky phrases to bless the newlyweds and the parents. 听力原文: The period of engagement is the time between the marriage proposal and the wadding ceremony. Two people agree to marry when they decide to spend their lives together. The man usually gives the woman a diamond engagement ring? That tradition is said to have started when an Austrian man gave a diamond ring to the woman he wanted to marry. The diamond represented beauty. He plecod it on the third finger d her left hand. He chose that finger because it was thought that a blood vessel in that finger went directly to the heart. Today, we know that this is not true. Yet the tradition continues.

Americans generally are engaged for a period of about one year if they are planning a wedding ceremony and party. During the time, friends of the bride may hold a party at which women friends and family members give the bride gifts that she will need as a wife. These could include cooking equipment or new clothing.

Friends of the man who is getting married may have a bachelor party for him. This usually takes place the night before the wedding. Only men are invited to the bachelor party. During the marriage ceremony, the bride and her would - be husband usually exchange gold rings that represent the idea that their union will continue forever. The wife often wears both the wedding ring and engagement ring on the same finger. The husband wears hi ring on the third finger of his left hand.

Many people say the purpose of the engagement period is to permit enough time to plan the wedding. But the main purpose is to let enough time pass so the two people are sure they want to marry each other. Either person may decide to break the engagement. If this hap pens, the woman usually returns the ring to the man; they also return any wedding gifts they have received.

听力原文: The American tradition of sending children to summer camp began more than 100 ye
ars ago. Today, summer camps for children have become very important to millions of families. Many American women now work outside the home. Working parents need a place where their children can be cared for during the summer when they are not in school.

Camps help children, too. For most children, overnight camp is the only time during the year independent. Campers live together in cloth tents or in wood cabins. They eat their meals together in a large dining room. Sometimes, however, the first time at summer camp can be difficult. Children might not like living with other campers. They might not like the food. Or, they might not like to do things like swimming in a cold lake. Some new campers miss their parents very much.

Mental health expert Chris Thurber studied almost 330 boy campers, who were between the ages of eight and sixteen. They were staying at an overnight camp. 83% reported that they wished they were at home at least one day during their time at camp. The American Camping Association suggests that parents prepare children before sending them to camp. They say parents should let children help choose the camp. And they advise parents to discuss what the camp will be like and what campers will need to know. Experts say young children may feel better at camp if they bring a toy from home and if their parents write letters to them often.

(30)

A.They can make more friends.

B.They can have a chance to be away from their parents.

C.They can have a chance to get close to nature.

D.They can have a chance to feel a sense of independence.
